Pakistan v England fourth ODI: Kevin Pietersen once again stars as Alastair Cook's side complete whitewash

England (241-6) beat Pakistan (237) by four wickets

Kevin Pietersen - Pakistan v England: live

Kevin Pietersen's second successive one-day international hundred carried England to a four-wicket victory, and 4-0 series whitewash ofPakistan.
Pietersen (130), without an ODI century for more than three years before his unbeaten 111 three days ago, repeated the dose for a career-best in another run chase under lights.
The outcome was in doubt for much longer this time, after a rare failure from Alastair Cook immediately put England's pursuit of 237 all out on the back foot.
But Pietersen appeared in control throughout in a 153-ball innings, which contained 12 fours and two sixes, as England got the job done with four balls to spare at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
He established a scoring rate that kept England ahead of the game, even from a precarious 68 for four after 16 overs, to the extent that Pietersen and Craig Kieswetter's fifth-wicket stand of 109 did not have to feature undue risks against Pakistan's spinners.

Edinson Cavani and Ezequiel Lavezzi - Napoli v Chelsea: match report
Home win: Napoli goalscorers Edinson Cavani (left) and Ezequiel Lavezzi celebrate following the latter's second goal of the evening in Naples.
Andre Villas-Boas’ beloved project went perilously close to going up completely in smoke on the slopes of Mount Vesuvius on Tuesday night. His faith in midfielders like Raul Meireles proved calamitous, leaving an ordinary defence exposed to the counter-attacking verve of Napoli’s Ezequiel Lavezzi and Edinson Cavani.
Villas-Boas’ idea that Meireles offered more defensive security than Frank Lampard in a 4-2-3-1 system would have carried some legitimacy if the Portuguese had actually impressed in recent games. He had not.
By the time Meireles was withdrawn and the stable-door finally closed, the Italian stallion in the elegant light-blue livery had long bolted, almost to the starting gates of the quarter-finals. Meireles’ caution for fouling the terrific Gokhan Inler precludes his involvement in the second leg, a potential blessing for Chelsea.
Lampard and Michael Essien arrived with 20 minutes remaining but the damage was done, the fire was burning out of control, the flames licking at Villas-Boas’ credibility. He really took a gamble on Tuesday night, fielding a starting XI that seemed another riposte to the English old guard. Ashley Cole came on when Jose Bosingwa, an unlikely left-back anyway, pulled his left hamstring after 12 minutes.
This was a chastening evening for Villas-Boas, Chelsea and for those who espouse the primacy of the Premier League. Judging by Arsenal’s humiliation at AC Milan and Chelsea’s skewering here, rumours of Serie A’s demise have been greatly exaggerated. Napoli showed a speed of purpose, an exuberance in possession and precision of finish lacking in Chelsea’s movements.

Enrique hails Reds' momentum

Defender Jose Enrique believes Liverpool's cup exploits have set the stage for a strong finish on all fronts.

Enrique hails Reds' momentum

The Reds thrashed Brighton 6-1 on Sunday to book an FA Cup quarter-final with Stoke and to warm up perfectly for next week's Carling Cup final showdown with Cardiff. Spanish left-back Enrique also has his sights on Champions League football next year and is confident of securing a top-four Barclays Premier League finish.
The 26-year-old said: "At the moment we are doing well. We are in one final and the quarter-finals in another cup, and I think in the league we are just four points behind the Champions League teams. We have had many games this year we haven't won but we have had many new players. With every game we play better together."
He added: "I think it is good we are in the next round. We've got Stoke at home and we've got a good chance of getting into another final.
"Now we will prepare to play Cardiff. Everyone thinks because we're playing against a Championship team it will be an easy game but we know it's going to be hard."
Liverpool will head to Wembley in good heart as they seek their first trophy since 2006.
Enrique, who joined the club from Newcastle last summer, said: "It is the first game we have scored many goals and of course it is great.
"I think it is good for confidence for next week because it is really important, the final, and we have to win that.
"We know this season we haven't scored many goals in the league games, so this is good for us.
"In football every week changes - if you lose next week this means nothing. You have to think in the future and that is why this game is confidence for the next one. That is how we have to think now."

Wenger still the solution at Arsenal - Petit

Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit believes that sacking Arsene Wenger would be 'the biggest mistake' Arsenal could make, amid speculation that the French manager could be on his way at the end of the season.
Rumours that Wenger's 16-year reign at the north London club could soon be over are swirling, as Arsenal look destined to finish the season without a trophy for the seventh straight campaign after their FA Cup defeat at Sunderland Saturday.
That topped a woeful week which also saw AC Milan inflict a heavy 4-0 defeat on Arsenal in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie.
But Petit, who formed a formidable partnership with Patrick Vieira in the early stages of Wenger's tenure, is convinced his former boss remains the right man to get the misfiring English giants back on track.
"If Arsene has to leave the club they need to find a big manager to settle down and that would be very difficult for the next manager," he told the BBC in an interview published on Monday.
"I think Arsene's still the solution. They need to change a few things in the transfer market, change a few things in their politics to bring a competitive team."
Petit, who joined Arsenal in 1997 and helped the team win the Premier League and FA Cup double in his first season, pinpointed last season's League Cup final defeat to Birmingham as a turning point.
Now the club needs a change of tack in the transfer market to get more leaders on board, as psychologically the team was "very weak", Petit said.
Petit said Wenger had to be applauded for changing the team after his side and for putting his faith in young players, which made financial sense.
But he added: "They need more experienced players, more big characters in the team because the quality is there and they need some players to be the mentors in the team."
