Bangladesh security team to visit Pakistan in March

A security team from Bangladesh will visit Pakistan on a two-day tour from March 2 to assess the security plan for their proposed cricket tour in April this year, ESPNcricinfo has learnt. A short series of limited-overs matches was planned by the PCB to host its first international series since 2009.

The PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf, along with Subhan Ahmed, the PCB's chief operating officer, last Friday had a detailed meeting with all the top bass of the law enforcement and security agencies in the country and they were assured of a 'box security plan', which includes bullet and bomb proof vehicles, for the Bangladesh home series.

"We have to fulfill their requirements of security and we are looking forward to the team coming in March," a top PCB official told ESPNcricinfo.

The security team includes Shawkat Mustafa - joint secretary from Interior Ministry, Ruhul Kuddus - assistant senior secretary of Sports Ministry, Shafiq Anwar - National Sports Council secretary, Mustafa Kamal - BCB president, Nizamuddin Ahmed Chowdhury - BCB acting CEO, two BCB directors - GS Hasan Tamim and Shamsul Huda, and Col. Mesbah Uddin Serniabat - BCB's security consultant. The team will arrive in Islamabad on March 2.

"We can't say anything particular but definitely the Pakistan tour is very important," Jalal Yunus, the BCB's media committee chairman, told ESPNcricinfo, "Everything is dependent on the security report and whatever we agree has to be confirmed only after assessing the security plan.

"We have learnt that some players and officials were quoted in media over their apprehensions in touring Pakistan but that is their individual perspective, which has nothing to do with the BCB's position."

"Obviously, once we agree to tour Pakistan we will definitely look into all their concerns before touring."

There are two itineraries proposed, one of which includes a three-match ODI series, and the other a series of two ODIs and one Twenty20 international, to be completed in one week in April. Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium , Karachi's National Stadium and Faisalabad's Iqbal Stadium are the venues expected to host the matches.

Pakistan v England fourth ODI: Kevin Pietersen once again stars as Alastair Cook's side complete whitewash

England (241-6) beat Pakistan (237) by four wickets

Kevin Pietersen's second successive one-day international hundred carried England to a four-wicket victory, and 4-0 series whitewash ofPakistan.

Pietersen (130), without an ODI century for more than three years before his unbeaten 111 three days ago, repeated the dose for a career-best in another run chase under lights.

The outcome was in doubt for much longer this time, after a rare failure from Alastair Cook immediately put England's pursuit of 237 all out on the back foot.

But Pietersen appeared in control throughout in a 153-ball innings, which contained 12 fours and two sixes, as England got the job done with four balls to spare at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

He established a scoring rate that kept England ahead of the game, even from a precarious 68 for four after 16 overs, to the extent that Pietersen and Craig Kieswetter's fifth-wicket stand of 109 did not have to feature undue risks against Pakistan's spinners.

Andre Villas-Boas’ beloved project went perilously close to going up completely in smoke on the slopes of Mount Vesuvius on Tuesday night. His faith in midfielders like Raul Meireles proved calamitous, leaving an ordinary defence exposed to the counter-attacking verve of Napoli’s Ezequiel Lavezzi and Edinson Cavani.

Villas-Boas’ idea that Meireles offered more defensive security than Frank Lampard in a 4-2-3-1 system would have carried some legitimacy if the Portuguese had actually impressed in recent games. He had not.

By the time Meireles was withdrawn and the stable-door finally closed, the Italian stallion in the elegant light-blue livery had long bolted, almost to the starting gates of the quarter-finals. Meireles’ caution for fouling the terrific Gokhan Inler precludes his involvement in the second leg, a potential blessing for Chelsea.

Lampard and Michael Essien arrived with 20 minutes remaining but the damage was done, the fire was burning out of control, the flames licking at Villas-Boas’ credibility. He really took a gamble on Tuesday night, fielding a starting XI that seemed another riposte to the English old guard. Ashley Cole came on when Jose Bosingwa, an unlikely left-back anyway, pulled his left hamstring after 12 minutes.

This was a chastening evening for Villas-Boas, Chelsea and for those who espouse the primacy of the Premier League. Judging by Arsenal’s humiliation at AC Milan and Chelsea’s skewering here, rumours of Serie A’s demise have been greatly exaggerated. Napoli showed a speed of purpose, an exuberance in possession and precision of finish lacking in Chelsea’s movements.
